Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients
The diagnosis of cancer has a profound effect on patients and their families. In addition to the emotional upset and health concern, there may also be significant financial implications.
The Irish Cancer Society recognises that in certain cases, families find it difficult to cope financially as a result of a diagnosis of cancer. There may be special needs that the patient may have specifically because of their illness or as a result of treatment. Therefore, a special grant fund is operated by the Society to lend some assistance in specific hardship circumstances where family finances are unable to cope.
Who the grant is for
This is a limited fund for needy cases, where other non-charitable sources are unable to help (e.g. social welfare assistance, disability allowance, corporation, or community welfare grants).
The Grant is for the care of patients that have been diagnosed with cancer, and who are personally unable to meet a specific financial burden that arises exclusively out of a diagnosis or treatment of cancer.
How to apply for this grant
If you feel that this grant fund applies to you, you must approach your Oncology Social Worker, Palliative Care Social Worker or Oncology Liaison Nurse. One of these healthcare professionals must then write to the Irish Cancer Society on your behalf, stating what the grant is to be used for and give an outline of your circumstances.
It is requested that all submissions for cash assistance grants follow this procedure in order to assist the Society to deal fairly and quickly with all applications.
