Society Mission & Values

Our Mission

The Mission of the Irish Cancer Society is to play a vital role in achieving world-class cancer services in Ireland, to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. Our goals are focused around prevention, survival and quality of life with three programme areas to achieve them; advocacy, cancer services and research.

Our Values

These values are OUR Values - the values of the Irish Cancer Society, its Committees and Board. They are the basic beliefs and principles that guide everything we do as a group of individuals who work together in pursuit of a common goal...to Conquer Cancer. We are totally committed to providing leadership and quality service in support of the mission of the Irish Cancer Society.

1 Regard for the Purpose

It is about us, and it is about the Organisation….but before all of this it is about the people and communities we are here to serve. The needs of our clients - people affected by cancer, families, carers, and the public - are Paramount, and serving them comes First.

2 The Role of Leadership

We respect and encourage the role of Leadership in defining the path ahead and making mission based decisions in order to maximise our progress towards our goals. We are confident that the Leadership shown within the organisation, is also reflected in the Leadership the Society can show at community, statutory and government level in the National fight against Cancer.

3 Teamwork

We are competing against time; we are competing against limited resources; we are not competing against each other. Our strength comes from working together to achieve our shared goals, with a spirit of natural compromise and energy, so as to optimise the use of our diverse skills, knowledge, and expertise. We are One Team - together we will achieve our mission.

4 Respect for the Individual

As Individuals, we work to achieve a productive, energetic and supportive environment that enables everyone to fully contribute his or her skills and talents.

5 Responsibility and Accountability

Our duties of Responsibility and Accountability create a working environment in which everyone is motivated and empowered to deliver high quality services.

6 Stewardship

We willingly accept our duty of Stewardship, to earn and maintain public trust and the enthusiasm of Volunteers and Supporters.
