About The Irish Cancer Society
Founded in 1963, the mission of the Irish Cancer Society is to play a vital role in achieving world-class cancer services in Ireland, to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. Our goals are focused around prevention, survival and quality of life with three programme areas to achieve them; advocacy, cancer services and research.
The Irish Cancer Society:
- runs nationwide cancer awareness, prevention and early detection campaigns to help people learn how to reduce their risk of developing cancer;
- provides information and support to people with cancer and their families and friends;
- provides nursing care for people with cancer at the end stage of their cancer journey in their own homes;
- funds pre-clinical and clinical research in hospitals and universities across Ireland; and
- advocates for the delivery of the National Cancer Control Strategy and the implementation of evidence-based policies and practices in the best interest of preventing cancer and of the people affected by cancer.
